Symbole incontournable de Bruxelles et de la Belgique, mais aussi haut lieu du tourisme international, réalisation unique dans l’histoire de l’architecture et vestige emblématique de l’Exposition Universelle de Bruxelles (Expo 58), l'Atomium est aujourd'hui l'attraction la plus populaire de la Capitale de l'Europe.
Figurant un cristal élémentaire de fer agrandi 165 milliards de fois, allusion à la puissance de l’'énergie atomique alors en plein essor et qu’on souhaitait utiliser à des fins pacifiques, l'édifice continue d'incarner les idées de futur et d'universalité de l'Expo 58 qui l'a vu naître, et perpétue - notamment au travers de sa programmation culturelle - la réflexion amorcée en 1958 : de quelle sorte de futur voulons-nous pour demain? à quoi tient le bonheur des Hommes et des Femmes de notre Terre?
Sa récente rénovation, en 2006, lui a rendu sa brillance d’origine et ses nouveaux équipements lui garantissent une véritable pérennité.
Cinq des neuf sphères sont ouvertes au public.
L’une abrite une exposition permanente dédiée à l'Expo 58. Une seconde est réservée aux expositions temporaires dont les thèmes tournent autour de la science, du progrès et du futur.
La sphère supérieure, quant à elle, offre un panorama aussi unique que saisissant sur la ville de Bruxelles. Par temps clair, la vue porte jusqu’à Anvers.
Le restaurant (gestion indépendante) - également situé au dernier étage - est ouvert tous les jours et accueille les visiteurs jusque 23h.
En soirée, 2970 ampoules clignotantes donnent un aspect magique et surnaturel à l'édifice de 102 mètres de haut.

Expo58 : l’exposition (permanent)
A travers des documents d'archives, des photographies, des vidéos d'époque et de nombreuses maquettes, cette exposition plongera les visiteurs dans cette prestigieuse et inoubliable manifestation.
Pour les uns, ce sera l'occasion de redécouvrir cet événement enchanteur ; pour les autres à qui l'Expo 58 et sa quête de progrès et de bonheur n'évoque rien de familier, de comprendre ce rêve qui fait encore aujourd'hui la magie de l'Atomium.

Symbool van Brussel en België waar je niet omheen kunt, internationale toeristische trekpleister, unieke verwezenlijking in de geschiedenis van de architectuur en symbolische vestiging van de Wereldtentoonstelling van Brussel (Expo 58), is het Atomium tegenwoordig de meest populaire attractie van de hoofdstad van Europa.
Het symboliseert een ijzerkristal dat 165 miljard keer is uitvergroot, allusie op de macht van de atoomenergie die toen in volle ontwikkeling was en die men voor vreedzame doeleinden wilde gebruiken. Het Atomium wil nog steeds de ideeën over de toekomst en universaliteit gestalte geven. Het tentoonstellingsprogramma van het Atomium werd dan ook in functie van de gedachte van 1958 opgesteld: welke toekomst willen wij voor morgen? Waar hangt ons geluk van af?
De recente renovatie in 2006 gaf de oorspronkelijke glans aan het Atomium terug, en de nieuwe installaties garanderen een werkelijke duurzaamheid.
Vijf van de negen bollen zijn toegankelijk voor het publiek.
In één ervan is een permanente tentoonstelling gevestigd die gewijd is aan de Expo 58. Een andere bol is gereserveerd voor tijdelijke tentoonstellingen waarin wetenschap, vooruitgang en toekomst een rol spelen.
Het panorama in de bovenste bol biedt een onovertroffen uitzicht over Brussel. Bij helder weer, reikt het zicht tot Antwerpen.
Het restaurant – eveneens in de bovenste bol – is elke dag open tot 23.00u.
’s Avonds geven de 2.970 knipperende lichtjes een magisch en bovennatuurlijk aspect aan het 102 meter hoge gebouw.
Om uw bezoek te verdiepen: audiogidsen in het NL (maar ook in F, EN, D, ES, IT en RU) staan aan de ticketbalie voor 2€ ter beschikking.
Expo 58: de tentoonstelling (permanent)
De tentoonstelling dompelt u onder in deze prestigieuze en onvergetelijke gebeurtenis aan de hand van archiefmateriaal, foto’s, video’s en verschillende maquettes.
Voor sommigen is het de gelegenheid bij uitstek om deze betoverende gebeurtenis te herontdekken; voor anderen, die niet vertrouwd zijn met Expo 58 en haar zoektocht naar vooruitgang en geluk, is de tentoonstelling een kennismaking met de droom die nu nog steeds een magisch karakter aan het Atomium verleent.

Unavoidable icon of Brussels and Belgium, important place for international tourism, unique creation in the history of architecture and emblematic vestige of the World Fair in Brussels (Expo 58) the Atomium continues to embody its ideas of the future and universality, half a century later.
In its cultural programme it carries on the debate of 1958: What kind of future do we want for tomorrow? Our happiness depends on what?
Its recent renovation in 2006 gave its original brightness back, and the new equipments guarantee its durability.
Five of the nine spheres are open to the public. One of them is housing a permanent exhibition dedicated to Expo 58. Another sphere is dedicated to temporary exhibitions with scientific themes.
The upper sphere offers spectacular views of the city of Brussels. When the sky is clear, the view reaches till Antwerp.
The restaurant, also situated at the top, is open every day till 11.00 p.m.
At night, the nine spheres are lit up with 2,970 lights that offer a very special show.

Expo 58: the exhibition (permanent)
Using archive documents, photographs, videos from that period and different models of former pavilions, this permanent exhibition paints a wide-ranging picture of an era and an event. It will take you to the heart of this prestigious and unforgettable event.
For some people, a visit to this exhibition will be a chance to rediscover the magic, and for others, unfamiliar with Expo 58 and its quest for progress and happiness, an opportunity to understand the dream that still gives a magical touch to the Atomium.
